Joe Root created history yet again as he overtook Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run scorer in Test cricket. On Day 3 of the ongoing Test match against India, Root put on a masterclass with the bat, moving past Rahul Dravid (13,288 runs), Jacques Kallis (13,289 runs), and finally Ricky Ponting (13,378 runs) — all in one spectacular innings.

πŸ“Š Root’s Career Stats: Over 13,380 Runs in 157 Tests

By the Tea break on Day 3, Joe Root stood unbeaten at 121 off 201 balls, taking his career tally to 13,380 runs. Root reached this milestone in 157 Tests at an impressive average of 51.26.

In comparison, Ricky Ponting had scored 13,378 runs in 168 Tests, averaging 51.85 with 41 centuries and 62 half-centuries.

🏏 Sachin Tendulkar’s Record Still Stands Tall

While Root now occupies the second spot, the top remains untouched. Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary Indian batsman, leads the list with a record 15,921 Test runs from 200 matches at an average of 53.78, including 51 centuriesthe most by any player in Test cricket.

 Root Punishes India’s Bowling Attack

Despite a couple of close calls — including an LBW appeal and a near run-out on 22 — Root’s composure shone through. Alongside Ben Stokes, who remained unbeaten on 36, Root kept England in command.

Earlier, Ollie Pope’s 71 and a brief spell from Harry Brook set the tone. Washington Sundar’s breakthrough offered India a glimmer of hope, but Root’s dominance shut down any major comeback.

πŸ“ˆ England Close to Victory and Series Win

At the end of Day 3's second session, England had taken the lead, thanks to Root’s monumental innings. A win in this Test would seal the series for England with one match to spare.
